SS-2 offers a higher residual bitumen content than SS-1 while retaining slow-setting behaviour, making it suitable for slurry seals, micro-surfacing style works and dense-graded cold mixes used in pothole repair and maintenance.

It is widely used by municipal maintenance teams because the mix can be stockpiled and hand-laid without heating equipment.
